## Book details

Basil Ransom, un jeune et séduisant avocat du Mississippi, rend visite à sa cousine Olive, une riche féministe, à Boston. Il l'accompagne à une réunion sur l'émancipation des femmes. Parmi les oratrices figure Verena Tarrant, et bien qu'il désapprouve tout ce qu'elle prétend défendre, Basil est immédiatement captivé par elle et entreprend de la « réformer » à l'aide de ses idées traditionnelles. Mais Olive a déjà fait de Verena sa protégée, et bientôt une lutte s'engage pour conquérir son cœur et son esprit.
