Terms of use

Last updated: October 14, 2026.

These terms govern your use of BookMasters, the collectible card game of books. By creating an account or playing, you accept them. If you don’t agree, don’t use the service.

The service

BookMasters is free. Nothing in it can be bought with real money.

The game is in its launch phase: it’s provided as is, with no guarantee of continuous availability or freedom from errors. Its rules, balance and features may change, and it may be interrupted for maintenance.

Your account

  • You must be at least 15 to create an account: that’s the age from which French law lets you consent on your own to the processing of your personal data.
  • One account per person. Your account is personal: it can’t be lent, shared or sold.
  • You access BookMasters with your MastersMasters account, the shared account for the Masters games: signing up, logging in and your email address are managed there, under its own terms.
  • Keep your MastersMasters login details secret. You’re responsible for what happens on your account; let us know right away if someone else uses it.

Royalties and book cards

  • Royalties, the in-game currency, and book cards have no monetary value. They can’t be bought or exchanged for real money.
  • Selling, buying or trading royalties, book cards or accounts outside the game, for money or anything else, is forbidden.
  • They don’t belong to you: you get a personal right to use them, in the game and for as long as your account exists. We may correct, remove or restore them in case of a bug, an error or abuse.
  • A book card’s rarity (its binding) comes from a notability score computed from the catalog of the Les Contes Infusés bookshop (the author’s books, the work’s editions, seller offers, copies in store), and can change with that catalog.
  • Parcel contents are drawn at random; the parcel odds are published and open to everyone.

The Stalls and trades

  • Auctions at the Stalls and trades between friends unlock at level 5, with a verified email address.
  • A won auction is final. No fees are taken: the seller gets the full final price, and royalties added to a trade are passed on in full.
  • Payment for an abnormal sale (a price far from usual sales) may be held while it’s checked.
  • It’s forbidden to manipulate prices, bid up your own auctions, move books or royalties between accounts you control, or exploit a bug at the Stalls. Possible sanctions: cancelled transactions, removal of items obtained, a ban from the Stalls, suspension or deletion of the accounts involved.

Rules of conduct

The following are forbidden:

  • cheating and deliberately exploiting a bug (report it instead);
  • bots, scripts and any automation of the game, and any attempt to get around technical limits or disrupt the service;
  • a username that’s offensive, hateful, misleading or impersonates someone else.

We may change a username, restrict some features, or suspend or delete an account that breaks these terms, in proportion to how serious the breach is. You can challenge a decision by writing to the contact address.

Books and covers

Book information (title, author, publisher, summary) and covers come from the catalog of the independent bookshop Les Contes Infusés. They are copied on our side, and covers are served by our own servers. When a book has no cover, BookMasters prints a title page instead. The works and their covers remain the property of their rights holders (authors, illustrators, publishers).

Covers are only shown within the game, whole and never altered. You may not extract, copy or reuse them elsewhere. Every book links to its page at the bookshop.

Covers are only shown inside the game, whole and unaltered, whether or not you own the book.

BookMasters isn’t affiliated with, endorsed or certified by any publisher. Titles, author and publisher names and the trademarks mentioned belong to their owners.

Credits

Liability

Because the service is free and in its launch phase, our liability is limited to the extent permitted by law, including for interruptions, lost progress or rule changes. Nothing in these terms limits the rights the law gives you as a consumer.

Changes to these terms

These terms may change as the game evolves. If there’s a significant change, you’ll be told in the game or by email before it takes effect. If you keep playing afterwards, you accept it; otherwise, you can have your account deleted.

Deleting your account

You can ask for your account to be deleted at any time by writing to contact@book-masters.com. This erases your progress, royalties and books, with no compensation; the history of the Stalls and trades is anonymized.

Governing law and contact

These terms are governed by French law. If there’s a dispute, write to us first so we can look for an amicable solution; failing that, the French courts have jurisdiction, subject to the rules that protect consumers.

Contact: contact@book-masters.com.

How we process your personal data is described in the privacy policy.
