How rarity is computed
Every book gets a rarity score from 0 to 1,000,000, computed from the catalog of Les Contes Infusés: how many books its author has, how many editions the work has, seller offers, copies in store, a summary and back-cover text. Later editions of the same work score a little lower, and so do self-published books. BookMasters splits that score into six bands: the more notable the book, the finer its binding.
Each pull first picks a binding using the published odds, then a random book among those that carry it. A famous classic is therefore rare to pull and a lesser-known book common: on average, a Manuscript shows up in 1 parcel out of 200.
Living rarity
The catalog changes, and so does the binding. BookMasters reads the bookshop’s new books every night and the whole catalog every Monday, then recomputes the scores. A book on the rise moves up for every copy.
