What is BookMasters?
BookMasters is a collectible card game of books you play in your browser. Every card is a real book from the catalog of Les Contes Infusés, an independent bookshop. Its rarity comes from how notable it is in that catalog, and you get a free parcel of 5 books every 10 minutes.
Is BookMasters free?
Yes. The game is completely free, with no ads and no purchases: a free parcel arrives every 10 minutes, and daily reads earn XP.
Can you make money with royalties?
No. Royalties are the in-game currency: you use them to bid at the Stalls, and they can never be converted into money. No parcel or book is ever sold for real money.
How do you earn royalties?
By playing: 1 R for each book sold to the stalls; 20 R, plus 1 R per book, when you bind an author’s collected works, and 10 R, plus 1 R per book, for selected works; 50 R once when you reach level 5, which opens the Stalls; and by earning Early reader on a book on the rise. At auction, royalties move from one player to another. Daily reads, streaks and achievements earn XP.
What are the parcel odds?
Each book in a parcel is pulled independently: Paperback , Softcover , Hardcover , Collector’s , First edition , Manuscript . There’s no guarantee and no catch-up rule: on average, a Manuscript shows up in 1 parcel out of 200.
Where do the books come from?
From the catalog of Les Contes Infusés, an independent bookshop: more than 110,000 listed books, copied on our side and refreshed every night. Covers are served by our own servers, and every book links to its page at the bookshop.
Do I need an account at the bookshop?
No. You play with your MastersMasters account, and that’s all. BookMasters never sends anything about you to the bookshop: the catalog is copied on our side.
Can I reuse the covers outside the game?
No. Covers belong to their publishers and only illustrate the cards: BookMasters shows them whole and unaltered, and you may not copy them elsewhere. To learn more about a book, every book page links to its page at the bookshop.
How is a book’s rarity decided?
By a notability score computed from the catalog (the author’s books, the work’s editions, seller offers, copies in store…), split into six bindings from Paperback to Manuscript. The more notable a book, the rarer it is to pull.
Can a book’s binding change?
Yes, rarity is alive: when the catalog changes, a book’s binding follows for every copy. If one of your books climbs at least 2 bindings since you got it, you earn Early reader on that book.
Can I sell or trade my books?
Yes. The stalls buy back any copy; from level 5, you can sell to other players at auction; and you can swap books with a friend. There are no fees: the seller gets the full final price.
How old do I need to be?
You must be at least 15 to create an account, the age from which French law lets you consent on your own to the processing of your data.
What data do you collect?
Only what the game needs: what your MastersMasters account shares (email address, username, display name) and your progress. No ad trackers, no analytics, and your data is never sold.
Does BookMasters work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, in the browser, with nothing to download. To use it like an app: on iPhone, in Safari, tap Share then “Add to Home Screen”; on Android, open the browser menu then “Install app”.
The whole game is explained in How to play.
